It was originally used only by Czech princesses, but from the 13th to the 16th centuries it was the king’s own palace. At its heart is the grand Vladislav Hall and the Bohemian Chancellery, scene of the famous Defenestration of Prague in 1618.

Within the Prague Castle, the Cathedral of Saints Vitus, Wenceslaus and Adelbert serves as the mother-church of the Archbishopric of Prague. Commissioned by Duke Wenceslaus after acquiring a significant relic of Saint Vitus, the duke himself (memorialized through the Christmas tune, “Good King Wenceslaus”) was also buried in the church and later became a saint.
